I am 32 weeks and I have read that babies tend to be less active around now as they have less space to move around in. However, mine seems more vigorous now than ever. When last I saw my midwife, she said I should be aware of my baby's movements and call for help if I can't count 10 movements before 9pm daily. I reckon those 10 movements are what my baby does in 10 minutes sometimes. Is this normal? I keep wondering if this means that I will have a very active baby as it seems so curious inside now, groping, kicking, stretching, and God knows what else!!! It's so strong that I am awake most nights watching the ripples on my belly. Help pls, experienced mums or those who know. Can a baby be overactive in the womb?
Sounds normal to me. I swear I am pregnant with the world's first human superball! Every appointment the doctor asks if the baby is moving and I beg her to tell me how to get the baby to calm down! Between hiccups, rearranging my internal organs several times a day, insisting my spine bend the other way, the judo chops, the mambo lessons, the soccer games with my bladder, it just never seems to quit.
I remember reading that babies slept for almost 90% of the time. I figured I would feel him roll over and change positions but there is no way this kid is sleeping with some of the movements he is pulling off. My hubby loves to lay at night with his hand on my belly and try to guess what he is doing. best he can figure is that he's going to be an acrobat when he grows up!
I'm 34+6 weeks pregnant and the movements have not slowed down. Even the few times he has moved head down his little legs keep on kicking. He likes to wait until I am taking a drink and then kick me in the diaphragm so that I choke on my drink. Although i think he has learned that kicking my ribs hurts him as much as it hurts me. So far he's only given me one good jab and I felt his little leg go back, after that his movements were a bit more tentative when head down but still just as frequent.
Oh, and don't forget the 12 hour marathon hiccup sessions. Even my doctor was a little surprised over that one however she insists that a baby who hiccups is a healthy baby with good strong lungs. Great, so not only is my guy gonna be a human super ball but a human super ball with an extremely loud cry! My neighbours are going to love me! LOL
I guess all we can do right now is just rest in the knowledge that are babies are healthy and enjoy the movements. Congrats on your new bundle of joy!
lol mine is the same....
im 30 weeks with a baby girl and she is very active all the time, very rare she is quiet and my stomach ripples a lot, its like the alien film honest freaky as hell.........
all arms and legs. Still better to have an active baby than not, but yes, i hope to, that it is not a sign of things to come :-o
Best of luck

I am exactly the same - I am 33 weeks pregnant and sometimes can have upto 30 movements in half an hour.
My baby seems to have a regular pattern too, so I know when to sort of expect the movements.
DOnt worry too much about it - certain foods and drinks stimulate them too - as well as a bath - chocolate, ice cold water, pure fruit juices etc...Can a baby be overactive in the womb?
Every baby acts differently and actually with the less room in the womb it may feel like MORE movement to you when it could be the same or even less but because of the smaller space it seems more.
Make since? I have been confusing everyone all day.
your baby seems quite like mine was at about that time. i am now 36 weeks along, and she has calmed down a bit, but around that time she was bouncing around like one of those mexican jumping beans. expecially if i ate sugary foods or drinks. this is very normal, and expect to be woken up even more. what you read is based on most pregnancys, but every one is diffrent, and sometimes, what you read on pregnancy will be written by a man, who has no idea how it feels, and every thing else. but she may settle down she may not. mine has a pattern of what seems like restlessness and just wanting to be ornery, but then she also has times when she is calm and i am guessing she is sleeping. i hope this helps a little,
If you have excessively high or low activity, I would get checked out.
I'm almost 32 weeks and 2 days wahoo!! My baby is sooo active! I can count the 10 kicks in a minute sometimes.. literally no joke! She also has the hiccups at least twice a day(which stregthens the diaphram)... So active baby is most likely a healthy baby! Enjoy the movements!
It can. My second daughter was a ball of fetal energy, and she's quite wild now.
But my twins were also active, and are very laid-back.
im 37.6 wks and my baby is a lunatic !!!! shes quiet most of the day then hit 8pm its like a rockers party in my tummy, even enough the other evening i jumped out of the chair i got such an aggressive kick. this is my 4th now. i remember my 1st was very busy and was a very active child. my 2nd was quiet in the womb and a quiet little baby. my 3rd was a lunatic too and is now a very active 6 yr old.
I just asked my sonographer exactly the same question when I went for my second scan!
My little one hardly stops moving, but she basically said that there's no maximum amount of movement that you should worry about. If a baby is a moving a lot, it is really strong - if there's any distress, movements will reduce, not increase.
Sounds like you've just got a fidgeter!
My daughter was very active, so I can relate. I had to be hospitalized for a blood clot as 26 weeks. While there the nurses always commented on how active she was. I had to be given Demerol at one point due to back pains. The nurses said that the Demerol would make her sleep while in the womb, However, not my little girl! She just kept on moving an moving.
thats pretty weird, maybe your baby is trying to tell you that it wants to be in every sport possible because shes so active.
My daughter was so active, that at about 33 weeks, she broke my rib. When born she was quite a good baby and slept most nights right through until the age of about 6 months. From that point on she was very active, needing little sleep, constantly mischievous and with a very enquiring mind. She balanced out as she got older.
I am 31 weeks and in the same boat as you...don't worry! They just like to party! ; )
