Information and help on a pulmonary embolism?

I have been out of hospital for nearly 3 weeks following a DVT/PE and take warfarin daily, i went back to work today for the first time and im not sure if this is a great idea, any one recommend how long you should rest for after having this?

And how long do you reckon recovery time is? I also ran quite religiously before this happened and don't know if its ok to start running again!

thanx in advance!!Information and help on a pulmonary embolism?
I had DVT/PE 11 years ago and was on Warfarin for 6months.

It'll depend on how bad your PE got before you got treatment and how damaged your lungs are will depend on what you are capsble of doing. I was fobbed off by 3 different doctors before i eventually collapsed at home and virtually died before they caught mine, so my lungs are pretty scarred up inside.

If your work is a sit down job you should be okay but you must remember to move about, DO NOT sit in the same position anywhere for more than two hours. If your work is physical you're going to have to take it easy. I returned to work (I was a cleaner in a club) way too soon and I suffered for it. My lungs swelled up to the point i was on morphine for two weeks after coming out of hospital because I'd over done it around the house.

I can honestly say it took me a year to get back to being as physical as I'd been previously. My daughter was 2 at the time and even picking her up was hard work and pushing the pushchair? forget it, it just left me exhausted.

It will take time and its really frustrating I know but you will get there, I promise. I wouldn't start with the running just yet, see how you go with normal day to day stuff first. The more you push it, the more you risk taking several steps backwards.

Feel free to message me if you want to talk, if not best of luck to you and I know you'll be well again soon.Information and help on a pulmonary embolism?
My husband had a PE about 4 years ago now, of course every case is different and it depends on how badly your lung/s were affected.

Personally I think you have returned to work far too soon. Take another month off if you can.

As regards recovery time again depends on your case, only your consultant or doctor can answer that question.

I certainly wouldn't recommend that you start running again without consulting your doctor first.

You need to get your Warfarin levels settled which can take a while, you may have to stay on Warfarin, but again only your doctor can make that decision each case is different.

I wish you well and hope you are able to make a full and complete recovery.Information and help on a pulmonary embolism?
This really should have all been discussed with your doctor. He should be the one answering all these questions. I would suggest you give him a call because this is not a condition that you want to treat lightly or do something too soon or that you shouldn't.
As your consultant apparently neglected to discuss this with you, I would visit your GP for advice. That's what we pay them for through NHS contributions.
