Speaking Irish daily?

Most of us would like to be able to do this but haven't been able to for various reasons but if we forgot about Seachtain na nGaeilge and just started with greeting eachother and asking for train tickets as gaeilge daily, as personal commitments do you's reckon it would work better? I do this and eight out of ten people reply as gaeilge.

I hear Irish people everyday saying how they'd like to speak it more, well we're in the perfect place to practise! doesn't have to be perfect just a little effort, cad a cheapann sibh?Speaking Irish daily?

im fourteen and absolutely LOVE irish but i have no idea why because none of my friends like it and i dont live in a gaeltacht area or anything.

but like, the problem is that kids HATE irish and there is such a negative vibe, like its our language, we should embrace it not hate it.





i learnt more irish when i was in the gaeltacht for 3 weeks then i have learnt in the 10 years i have been in school. if we spoke it more it would be SOO much easier.
go to clondalkin! its like the irish capital of dublin!

i think there are like 2 secondary schools that are irish speaking!

well i wouldn't like to, can't stand the language, probably the way it has been taught to me thus far.

maybe it would be a novelty for some people, but it's a fairly useless skill to have unless you want to be a teacher in a primary school or an irish teacher at secondary level.



i don't know where you live but i have never anyone express the sentiments as you, but i respect your opinion but don't think that most people in the country would desire the same as youSpeaking Irish daily?
I once spoke Irish in a Post Office in what is supposed to be the Donegal GAELTACHT, the girl behind the counter apologised in English that she didn't speak Polish.



I'd like to more often, but everyone either seems to think you are trying to be a smartarse or they just gawp at you with a blank look on their face.
I think, if you want to speak Irish regularly, you would be better off looking for a group of like-minded people to practice with. I don't know where you live, but I know there are plenty of Irish speakers in Dublin -- one of my friends there told me she actual speaks more often in Irish than in English because of the circles she moves in. Gaeltachts are another obvious place to look, but even there it's not perfect. You should try to see if there's anything like an Irish bookstore or a Gaelic League branch near you, because the people at the bookstores or the branch offices would definitely know other local Irish speakers and might be willing to help you get in touch with them.



Good luck -- I'd say it as Gaeilge but I'm insanely rusty at the moment. I need to take my own advice, get myself back to Ireland, and get some good practice in myself :-p
i really do agree with you. More people would learn our native tongue if we spoke it more to each other. Some people have gone off the idea of irish because of the way they had to learn it at school or they weren't thought correctly but it definitely should be used more.

I think that's a great idea. Even if we tried at home with our families it would help with remembering vocabulary etc. Star for you!
